Our Unit Oral Presentations

We've spent a lot of time last week preparing oral presentations with a partner to show our understanding of the central idea this unit: Limited access to natural resources makes people vulnerable.  As a grade level, we got together and decided on criteria that would be essential for a meaningful presentation.  We have worked hard to create a script and plan a PowerPoint to use as a visual during these presentations.  Then we practiced so that we could focus on our oral presentating skills.  We will use these presentations in the future to help us raise awareness across the school about water issues in the world.  These oral presentations will help us when we are ready to have our Water Campaign to help raise money to build wells in places that do not have access to clean water.

Our Walk for Water!

Did you know that some people walk for many hours a day to get water?

Today Grade Four learned about this when we watched a video called Buckets of Water.  We saw a girl called Christina that lives in Ghana and has to walk for two hours, twice a day to collect water for her family.  In order for us to have some understanding about what it is like to carry water for long distances, we walked to the Rhein River to collect water and carry it all the way back to school!  Most of us were exhausted by the end of our trip and needed some time to recover.  It really got us thinking about people around the world that do not have easy access to water and need to walk a distance in order to get it.

What really made you think during our walk for water?
