Math Thinking Journals

4.2 students have brought their Math Thinking Journals home this weekend to look at together with their parents.  Please try to have a conversation with your child about the kind of things we have been doing in math recently.

We've been looking at all different kinds of polygons and calling them by names according to their sides.  We have also started to look at the angles of polygons and have begun to identify right angles, acute angles, and obtuse angles.  We've been using what we know to determine the size of different angles and to construct angles of bigger sizes.

Please be sure to bring your Math Thinking Journals back to school on Monday as we use them everyday!

What kind of angles does this shape have?

How many degrees do these two angles makes?

How many degrees is this angle?  How do you know?

What kind of angle is this?
Is this an obtuse or an acute angle?  Why?

  1. dear ms castro,

the 5th pichtur is an acute angle because it is smaller than a 90 degree and if it is a bigger angle then that means that it is an obtuse like the hexagon on the 4th picture it is obtuse!!! the second picture is a right angle because it fits right on the square angle so there is my advic to you!!!

    your lexi!!!
